Eye Diseases

One of the most common types of eye disease is pink eye or conjunctivitis. Pink eye is a disease that can be caused in any of a number of ways. You might get pink eye from a parasite, from a pet, from allergies, or it might have come into your eyes from particles in the air. Regardless, pink eye is commonly identifiable by a redness and irritation in your eyes. You might even experience a silky pussy material coming out of your eyes if you have pink eye. This is mucus that is being produced by your eyes and can cause your eyes to stick together when you wake up in the morning. Pink eye is commonly cured with some antibiotics for your eyes that can be prescribed by your doctor.

Eye Disease

Dry eye is another eye disease that is fairly common. Dry eye happens when you eyes become itchy from being too dry. This can be caused by any of a number of things, and the cause may be truly unrelated to your eyes at all. If you have dry eyes, your eyes might excessively produce tears. That’s because when your eyes are overly dry, a signal is sent to your brain that your eyes are dry, and your brain tries to fix the problem by creating the amount of tears in your eyes. Dry eye can be treated by visiting your doctor and through medications. There are severe cases of dry eyes that are caused by things unrelated to your eyes. You should have blood tests taken to determine what the true cause of your illness might be.

Thyroid Eye Disease

Graves Disease is a disorder in your eyes when your eyelids open wider than they should. The problem with eyelid retraction is that when the eyelid opening is large, the there is an increased level of tear evaporation and your eyes might be excessively dry. This can be uncomfortable to you and significantly dangerous. There is a surgery that can be done that can lower your eyelids so they don’t open as far. This will help keep your eyes functioning as they should.

There are other types of eye diseases that you should know about. Cataracts is a disorder of the blood vessels inside your eyes. Glaucoma is a disorder that means you lose your peripheral vision. Glaucoma can be especially dangerous to drivers. If you don’t have very good peripheral vision, you are more likely to get into an accident because you can’t see peripherally.
